Carvair N89FA
A couple months back I was itching to find a unique subject to shoot with my new camera, a Canon 60D. With any new camera there is a learning curve so I have been shooting airplanes, cars, scenery and my niece and nephews soccer games! So one Saturday morning I flew the 170 up to KGLE, Gainesville, Texas airport to photograph the Carvair, N89FA. This modified DC-4/C-54 has seen the world from the air but now lives on the quiet ramp in Gainesville. The dry grass and blue skies made for a worn and tired setting for this vintage ship.

Incredible aircraft to pilot . The front area look like a Boeing 747 with propeller.
I had the incredible good fortune of riding in and skydiving out of this very same classic aircraft N89FA in 2005. We flew out of the old Chanute AFB in Rantoul Illinois. It made one or two flights after this event but has been idle in TX for years. Rumors are that it may be sold to an operator in South Africa.

I flew several times with exactly this "Grand Old Lady" under British Air Ferries colors from Basel to Southend and back. Unforgettable was a horses transport to England. The passengers were then over 2 hours in a stable! Unique - unforgettable and impossible today!
